Pushbutton Summit 2011 FAQs

Pushbutton Summit is a premier digital media industry summit centered on the intersection of creativity and technology. Presented by Grow Utah Ventures, the Summit will feature dozens of first-class lectures, panels, and presentations focusing on the creative application of disruptive technologies. Successful innovators and entrepreneurs will showcase their practices, vision and plans to lead the future.

 

PushButton will bring together leading game designers, mobile app developers, digital animators, industry executives, entrepreneurs, students, private investors and more to shape where technology and creativity is heading. Engage with this illustrious group and get a first hand view into the forces and technology driving the future of the digital media industry.

 

The PushButton Summit will take place from October 13-14 and will run concurrently with the Gaming Electronics Expo (Oct 14-15), presented by Media One of Utah.

Conceived and organized by a group of gaming enthusiasts and backed by MediaOne of Utah, GEEX is the premier gaming and electronics expo in the mountain west. This year, GEEX has partnered with the PushButton Summit and will run concurrently during the Summit. All PushButton attendees get complimentary access to both days of the GEEX event. The PushButton Summit will be held Oct 13th & 14th (Thursday/Friday) An evening reception will take place on the 13th from 6:00 – 9:00 PM followed by an all-day conference on the 14th from 8:30 AM – 7:00 PM.

 

The GEEX Expo will take place Oct 14th & 15th (Friday/Saturday).

Industry leaders, game designers, mobile app developers, digital animators, entrepreneurs, students, private investors and anyone wanting to get plugged into the Digital Media Industry in Utah.

A fantastic group of speakers has been lined up for this years Summit. Some of the speakers include executives from: EA, Sony Online, Microsoft Game Studios, Digital Domain, Playfish, Epic Games/Chair Entertainment, and more. A variety of awesome topics have been selected for this years Summit. Topics include:

We are expecting around 300-500 people to attend the Summit (seating capacity is 500). About 8000 people are expected to attend the GEEX Expo.

• Oct 13th Opening Reception: Enjoy an informal reception with food and drink at the Leonardo in downtown Salt Lake City. Exclusive tours of the new Leonardo center.
• Oct 14th Summit: An all-day conference with keynote speakers and panelists. Continental breakfast and breakout food is included. Lunch is not included, however several restaurants will be on-site for lunch purchase.
• Oct 14th Closing Reception: Enjoy food, beverages and complimentary entrance to the GEEX show with your PushButton pass. Wander among the many exhibits presented by leading game and digital media companies.
• Oct 14th-15th GEEX Gaming Electronics Expo: Enjoy entrance into this expo with your PushButton pass. Wander among the many exhibits presented by leading game and digital media companies and, of course, play a few games.

PushButton & GEEX will take place at the following locations:

• Oct 13th PushButton Opening Reception: The Leonardo, 209 E 500 S, Salt Lake City.
• Oct 14th PushButton Summit: Jordan Commons, Auditorium #13, 9400 S. State Street, Sandy, Utah.
• Oct 14th PushButton Closing Reception: GEEX Exhibit Hall, Southtowne Expo Center, 9575 S State Street, Sandy, Utah.
• Oct 14th-15th GEEX Gaming & Electronics Expo: GEEX Exhibit Hall, Southtowne Expo Center, 9575 S State Street, Sandy, Utah.

The PushButton Opening Reception will consist of an evening of food, networking, displays, awards and incredible technology exhibits at the new Leonardo. Here are the details:

• Leonardo Exhibits
  Begin the Summit by experiencing the excitement and innovation that is part of the new Leonardo center in down town Salt Lake.

   

  Enjoy two floors of interactive exhibits and demonstrations that embody the artistic expression of technology. The Leonardo is a captivating Sci+Tech+Art Museum with incredible technology & digital media exhibits. (Note: The 2nd floor exhibits will only be open until 7:00. Please arrive early to see it all!)
• University Displays
  Utah's leading digital media universities and colleges present their latest student work at hosted exhibits in the Leonardo. Interact with students and professors as they enthusiastically share the results of their hard work and accomplishments in the digital media field.
• Awards
  Join with us in recognizing the significant success achieved by this year's recipient of the Utah Digital Media Leader Award. Enjoy their background story and learn as they share what has contributed to their success.

The PushButton Closing Reception will be a final opportunity for casual networking as we close out the Summit. Enjoy food, beverages and complimentary entrance to the GEEX show with your PushButton pass. Wander among the many exhibits presented by leading game and digital media companies. And of course, play a few games.

Parking is free at Jordan Commons and the Southtowne Expo! For the opening reception at The Leonardo, parking will consist of an underground pay lot, valet parking, or you can ride Trax to the "Leonardo/Library Square" stop.

PushButton Summit passes are $75 for all three days of activities and receptions, including entrance into GEEX. (See above to find out "what's included" in the ticket price).

 

GEEX tickets cost $10.00 for a day pass or $15.00 for a weekend pass including both Friday and Saturday. Tickets include access into the main exhibit hall, speaking events, and main stage tournament viewing. Participation in any tournaments or the LAN party is an extra charge. It does not include access into the PushButton Summit or receptions. For more information about GEEX, visit www.geexshow.com.

The main reason for the price difference is that a Summit pass includes entrance into GEEX so you're getting two passes in one. We've also tried hard to bring in top-tier speakers for the Summit however sometimes there is an expense for that- although the quality of the speakers makes it worth it for all. Additionally, the Summit pass also includes food and drinks for 2 receptions, 2 breakouts, and continental breakfast, as well as an exclusive entrance into The Leonardo tech center.

 

An Expo pass allows entrance into the Expo only and not the Summit or its associated receptions. An Expo-only pass also does not include any food. The bottom line is that the Summit costs a little more because you're getting more.

The Summit pass includes food and drinks for the continental breakfast, opening/closing receptions, and two break-outs. It does not include lunch, however there are multiple restaurants located on-site for lunch purchase.
